am i then to understand that my rack of altec 9444 a and b's are not up to the task of great sounding amplification? tho heavy... are the sonics sound? i use a crest cc4000 for all frequencies below 50 hz in my b system. running 9444a with my a-7s do i need better amps?
that chest thumping base comes in two ways
1) the amp has outputs and a power supply that will do it. enough to handle the needed overhead.
2)the other method I have seen in some circuits, the return speaker line is to another set of output elements with the input tied to ground and the power supply floats. [crown?]
#2 eliminates that thump getting lost in inadequate power supply filtering.

It would be my first choice if i were going to get back into SR. My second choice and what i currently own for driving subs is the BGW GTA. Although it's overkill, the BGW also sounds excellent on mains and at low volumes, but at 86 lbs it does test the limits of "portability"Quote:

I am of the school of thought that a good sub amplifier starts with a substantially stout power supply, i do not like amplifiers with "switching" power supplies (excepting those old soundcraftsmens).

I was told today they are in fact discontionuing the " Benchmark "!
No one likes the I Techs, the macro are the last of the real Crown amps, how can they do this?

The threshold stasis amps have a similar sound and are very reliable. They are available with higher power so that won?t be a problem but prices are pretty high for units in good condition.
